England’s Paul Waring surged to the lead with a course-record 11-under-par 61, reaching 19 under and establishing a five-shot lead.
The 39-year-old’s round featured nine birdies and an eagle, marking his career-best performance.
Early leader Tommy Fleetwood, who matched the course record on Thursday, carded a 68, joining Johannes Veerman and Danes Thorbjorn Olesen and Niklas Noergaard Moller at 14 under. Waring capped his round by hitting a remarkable 265-yard shot to within three feet on the par-five 18th, calling it "the best shot I’ve ever hit."
English players Laurie Canter, Tyrrell Hatton, and Matt Wallace, along with Ugo Coussaud from France, are tied at 12 under, seven shots back. Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre sits at 11 under.
Rory McIlroy, aiming for his sixth Race to Dubai title, shot a second consecutive 67 but trails by nine strokes following a triple bogey on the 17th. McIlroy hopes for tougher course conditions, saying, "There are so many gettable holes out there.
